Going Tangent

Life is filled with circular activities. You go to bed, wake up, have a breakfast, do your job, stay glued to your mobile, go to sleep at night & this cycle repeats. With repeatition comes pattern & with pattern comes stagnation. You know what comes from stagnation ? Death. Yeah, you heard that right. Not necessarily the death of your body, but it's the death of your soul.  So what do you do then ?  Simple, You break free from your pattern. You leave your circle & start going along a tangent. It means you do something different. Something that surprises you, something that excites you & something that lits a candle in your dying soul.   Now please don't get me wrong. It can be your job too that excites you. May be you have an amazing time sitting in front of your computer & your mind just goes wild. May be you love talking to people & close a deal (The wolf of wallstreet vibe). That's incredible. But for most people, as I know, that's not the ...

Real Life "Hunger Game"

It was 2.30am. Suddenly i woke up & felt hungry. I dragged myself into the kitchen & searched every corner, but there was nothing to eat. But i didn't give up. I kept searching & finally found a biscuit. Not a packet of biscuit, but a slice of biscuit.  My hunger grew stronger & stronger. I thought “I have to order something from Swiggy”. So I picked my phone & tried to order a Maggie. “Connected without internet” my phone responded. Then I checked Wifi & yes, it was gone. “Oh Shit” that was my reaction. Then I thought “well, I have my own mobile internet. It will do the job”.  I tried to turn on the internet & it said “No internet available”. I felt cheated. Then I went to my friend & borrowed his mobile so I could use the hotspot. I turned on his hotspot. But when I turned on my wifi my friend’s device was not visible. I tried checking again & again. Didn’t work out. Then I thought “may be I should order from my friend’s mobile itself”....

Story of a Truck Driver

Winter nights are painful. Specially when you have to wake up at 4 o'clock, get ready & drive for 25 km in one go. But over all these years it doesn't seem that difficult nowadays. I pick my BOXER at 5 am & press the accelerator at 40. Wait,  before I tell this story any further, I would like to introduce myself.  I, Mr. Raghuveer Prasad, am a truck driver & the narrator of this story. I have been working for 20 years as a full time driver under "Pandit Ji Truck Service". This place is 60 km away from my home. Everyday my work starts at 7am. And my job is to pick up the call & reach the doorstep of anyone who needs a truck.  So after driving 25km i would stop near a tea stall that also sells Idli & curry. I would leave my BOXER near that stall, take a tea & start walking to a nearby cricket field just behind the stall. There I would meet Biju Sir, a 40 year old truck driver & the main character of this story. He has never been a teacher. He...

Top Gun : Maverick

Box Office : 1.4B Dollar  IMDb : 8.3 Rotten Tomatoes : 96%  Well, these are the figures of Top Gun 2. But before I continue any further let me share with you a small story :   In 2015 I watched interview of a US Airforce Pilot talking about his experience. It was a nice interview. Before ending the interview the interviewer asked him to name few of his favourite movies. As you can expect, he picked "Top Gun". Then he spent couple of minutes reflecting its impact on him during his childhood days. Till that point I had no idea about that movie. Then I Googled & came to know it's a Tom Cruise movie.  So I decided to give it a try.       I watched it.  I loved it.  But I wouldn't say it was an outstanding movie in terms of its story. It was precisely good just like other successful movies that has its fair share of romance, emotion & a  decent storyline. But 2 things really stands apart from Top Gun (1986) :  1) Acti...

One Day in Bangalore : Part 1

I was thirsty. But the water jar was empty from last night. So when i woke up i was quickly out riding my friend's scooty to fill my water-jar. I parked the scooty outside the supply centre & waited for the supplier to take his seat. He took his seat & run the water.  After filling the 20L jar, i passed him a 10 ruppee coin, which he calmly rejected. I felt strange. Then i paid him a strange look & he was quick to offer me a strange look too. Not a single word. Just a strange look.  There was a gentleman, around 50 years, standing next to me. Since the water supplier was working in mute-mode, so he helped me understand the situation by settin up a brief conversation. What he said goes something like "some kannda or telugu or tamil, followed by 'its not working...we are not accepting', followed by some kannada or telugu or tamil". Thank god, the middle part saved me. Then i was like "Ohh..Okay Okay".  Then both of us carried our respective wat...

The illusion of "Passion"

I loved Steve Jobs & still do. One of the best in the game. I read "Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish" in +2 & this chapter hooked me like fevicol which become a part of my life philosophy. It talks about lots of things, but passion has been hilighted here like never before. Well, why me, in fact millions of students have come across this chapter (his Stanford speech) & have been deeply influenced by this term. Ironically, this epic speech has not only opened, but it has also blocked the road for millions. How ? Let's find out. Although passion has been used multiple times in his speech, but he has never concretely defined it. That's why people have applied this term in several contexts without any ground understanding of its true meaning.  Consider the case of Rahul : an imaginary kid, who is excited about entrepreneurship. He heard the story of Mark Zuckerberg & said "I found my passion". Next day, he played a friendly cricket tournament in school ...
