One Day in Bangalore : Part 1

I was thirsty. But the water jar was empty from last night. So when i woke up i was quickly out riding my friend's scooty to fill my water-jar. I parked the scooty outside the supply centre & waited for the supplier to take his seat. He took his seat & run the water.

After filling the 20L jar, i passed him a 10 ruppee coin, which he calmly rejected. I felt strange. Then i paid him a strange look & he was quick to offer me a strange look too. Not a single word. Just a strange look.

There was a gentleman, around 50 years, standing next to me. Since the water supplier was working in mute-mode, so he helped me understand the situation by settin up a brief conversation.

What he said goes something like "some kannda or telugu or tamil, followed by 'its not working...we are not accepting', followed by some kannada or telugu or tamil". Thank god, the middle part saved me. Then i was like "Ohh..Okay Okay".

Then both of us carried our respective water jar, went outside, loaded our jar in our respective scooty. Before starting his scooty he inquired "Hey, what you do here?"

I took 2 seconds to come up with a reply & said "I am taking coaching"

"For what?"

"VLSI"

"You are from Odisha?"

I offered a gentle smile & said "Yeah". But frankly, i was a bit shocked.

"How did you identify me as Odia, sir" i sought to know.

Then he came up with a reply (within a nano second) which was respectful, interesting & a bit long at the same time.

"It's your accent. People from that part of India like Odisha, Assam, West Bengal, its easy to identify them from their accent. But you see, people from south like from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, their accent is quite similar"

"How is that?" i was curious to dig deeper , so i asked.

"The thing is, when you think in Odia & speak in English, then it's very easy to identify the accent. But if you think in English & speak in English, then people rarely find out the accent".

I again came up with my trademark reply "Ohh...Okay Okay".

Then i saw the water jar slipping a bit from the Scooty & then i remembered i was thirsty. I bid him a good bye & a Thank You. I drove back to my place & drunk like i was in a desert.

Later, i took few minutes to let that experience sink in my mind & wrote this blog post. Time to go back to work. Till next time "Jay Jagannath".

A Self-Introduction to Me : Some of you know me (through Facebook), most of you don't. Ofcourse because I am an introvert who likes to shut himself in a room than going out to meet people in real. So today, although it's been late, I will introduce myself (just in case, you are wondering where am I coming from).. My name is Jyoti-blah-blah-blah. I am an alumni of CET from the branch of Electrical Engineering. At my home, in Dhenkanal, my friends call me Chintu while my friends at CET call me RANGA BHAI (out of affection) & nobody calls me Jyotiranjan.  I got into this writing-thing in 2015 while using Facebook. The more I wrote the more I found things to write about & eventually enjoyed it more than engineering (yes, I must admit). Since then I have written on Facebook for 8 years till 2023 & still continuing this blog. I was born in the same year Titanic released in USA & Dil Toh Pagal Hai released in India. 1997. I hope you understand what I am trying to say ...

Anxiety : A Constantly Degrading Gen-Z Problem...

Since the beginning of 2012, a time when smartphones entered Indian market in leaps & bounds, something has changed. This is the time when the early Gen-Zs (born between 1996 to 2001) were in their high-school years, mid Gen-Zs (2003 to 2007) were in their primary-school years & lower Gen-Zs (2008 to 2012) were in their Childhood years.  Gone are the times of Nokia, when phones were used for calls, messages, alarm clock & snake games. As time passed phones grew smarter. The design focus shifted from general utility to user experience. Then from user experience to addictive user experience.  Powered by cutting edge chips, high end software designs, AI insertion & rigorous software updates smartphones grew from basic to prime to ultra-prime. While this is a boon for a majority of generations, like the millennials, who have the necessary self control to use them with caution, the younger generations (Gen-Zs & lower) had to confront something totally alien....

Sukua : The Boy behind an Innocent Scandal

He was like an animal from a different planet. Very fondly his parents named him "Sukua". He was 15 & was working as a helper at SAHU'S KITCHEN, a 3 star hotel. But you don't know him if you don't know about his beloved. Nothing makes him happier than the smell of his beloved, rum.   Every night, after work, he would keep pushing Sahu Mausa, the hotel owner, for a 100ml bottle of rum & as usual, mausa would come up with his regular response "Shut up ". But what bothers him most is when he catches Sahu Mausa passing a bottle to Bisu (his senior co-worker), every single night. But oneday, he got an idea.  After his job, he reached the hotel bunker & broke the news : " Fire. Fire. Hotel on fire ". Every other staff rushed outside only to discover that it was a prank pulled by Sukua. They returned to the bunker to make it even with Sukua, but he was sitting like a stone. Not a single word. Just a weird look on his face & eyes toward...
