The Face of Frustration

 


There is never a time when I have not enjoyed Math. Atleast that was my idea when i was in class 10. Then I came to +2 & faced a chapter called "permutation & combination" which gave me a blow hard enough to snatch my earlier idea. I hated it from top to bottom. Later on I faced "probability" in 2nd year which made me feel even worse. Somehow I was successful in consoling myself that I was still good in math especially in "relation & function" which holds an elite reputation among all chapters. 

When I joined CET for B-Tech I was in ecstasy because I no longer have to frustrate myself with probability again. But my joy lasted for a year when I came to know that in GATE exam there is rarely a time when a question from probability is not asked. It was hard to digest. Later on I thought joining Made Easy might help. So I did that in 3rd year for a 2 year programme just like most of my classmates did. Did it change anything ? 
Ofcourse no, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this blog post now.

The burden of 10 technical subjects was sufficient enough to distract me from probability. Besides a subject like probability, where you are expected to solve around 500 problems to get a strong hold over it, was never a cake walk amid the busyness of Gate life & College life. So it always stayed as a blank spot. Finally I decided to leave it & focus on other subjects. Did it cost anything ? Yes. I lost 2 Marks (2000 rank) from probability in Gate 2019. After my underperformance in Gate 2019 I gave it another chance & flunked probability again in Gate 2020. Overall I underperformed again in 2020 although I fared poorly in other technical subjects just like probability. Covid-19 outbreak after Gate 2020 gave me a reason to attempt Gate for the last time. I still couldn't fill that blank spot of probability. Although my overall performance was not miserable in Gate 2021 it was still below a decent score considering it was my 3rd attempt.

After declaration of Gate 2021 result I decided to go for M-Tech. Atleast here I was happy because i am not going to specialize in Math. So I no longer have to worry about Probability. As an electrical engineer I have around 4 to 5 major areas to specialize. After rounds & rounds of thinking & rethinking I settled for "Signal Processing" or in the worst case "Power Electronics". As I started my research I came to know that almost every field of electrical engineering uses Machine Learning. Although we can eliminate ML & rely on traditional methods but the exceptional technique of ML has made it a cutting edge priority over other time consuming tools. So far the story is going quite well untill M-Tech counselling starts when I realized "ML is incomplete without Probability". 

Before ending this post I would like to mention one quote from the 2017 movie "Call Me by Your Name" which goes like "When you least expect it, Nature has cunning ways of finding our weakest spot". I believe that's goddamn right. I believe a time comes when avoiding doesn't remain an option. All that is required of you is the ultimate strike.

    Broo whenever I used to skip some portion from syllabus,that Questions used to come in sem /annual/half yearly exam .I can remember in btech first yr in mechanics I just skip one example from alok from 23 questions.. unfortunately that Questions again came in my sem paper.

    So it's true Bhai . Avoiding is not a good option.

People-Killing Lightnings of Odisha

As a coastal state Odisha is blessed with a beach. But it has brought it's fair share of adversities too. It's most commonly known adversary being Cyclones, Lightnings have somehow stayed away from public discussion. Part of the reason is that lightnings don't impact an entire geographical area, which somehow leads to lower public awareness. But the thing is they usually don't strike, but when they do, they do it hard.  Statistics shows, in Odisha cyclone kills around 60-70 people per year while lightning takes 250-300 lives. Sukua : The Boy behind an Innocent Scandal

He was like an animal from a different planet. Very fondly his parents named him "Sukua". He was 15 & was working as a helper at SAHU'S KITCHEN, a 3 star hotel. But you don't know him if you don't know about his beloved. Nothing makes him happier than the smell of his beloved, rum.   Every night, after work, he would keep pushing Sahu Mausa, the hotel owner, for a 100ml bottle of rum & as usual, mausa would come up with his regular response "Shut up ". But what bothers him most is when he catches Sahu Mausa passing a bottle to Bisu (his senior co-worker), every single night. But oneday, he got an idea.  After his job, he reached the hotel bunker & broke the news : " Fire. Fire. Hotel on fire ".
